More ladybug adventures

We got our money's worth out of this year's costume. We went to a Halloween party at Amber and Nathan's house today. We were early, so Delia and I took some pictures in the front yard first. Here are a couple:

After a while, we rang the bell, but nobody answered. We banged on the door. Still, no one. Then Sharon and Lauren pulled up and said, "um, Rebecca, that's the wrong house." Oops!

The party was fun once we found the right house. We had a monkey, a puppy dog, a Super Girl, and a chick.

This afternoon, Delia helped us get ready for the hordes of trick-or-treaters we expected to see. Here she is testing the candy:

And here she is trying to pull off her wings:

The end of the evening was kind of a bust. Our little ladybug passed out at 6:30, so no trick-or-treating for her. We had maybe a dozen kids at the door, which leaves us with a lot of chocolate. Maybe we'll save it for next year...

Beware the wild ladybug

The wild ladybug, observed in her natural habitat, is not as gentle as one might at first assume. In fact, young ladybugs have been known to try to bite the fingers off of unsuspecting froggies.

We went to a Halloween party today. I won't say it was a bad time, but there is a little boy out there who will grow up terrified of ladybugs, and he'll never remember why.

In other trauma news, two or three boys came dressed as Elmo. All the other little kids chased them around the room yelling, "Elmo! Elmo!"

What a morning.

Lazy weekend

We've been pretty lazy this weekend. Delia spent yesterday morning tucked into a small container that usually holds diapers. In the afternoon, she mowed the yard, then we sat down to watch a little baseball. Go Sox!

Rainy days

Well, I am turning into a terrible slacker about updating this blog. Please forgive me. I promise to try harder, so keep coming back.

This morning Delia and I went out into a cold, rainy day for some playtime at the library. They had a great dress-up box there. I think I will go out on November 1 and buy up the Halloween costumes so we can play diva at home.

All the kids fought over this thing, but we did have a couple minutes of actual sharing.

"Dahling, fetch me my sippee cup, won't you?"

Pumpkin patch

Yesterday we carpooled with friends to the pumpkin patch in Hayden, AL. Once we got up there, it was mostly hot and dirty. We had fun in the car, though!

On the way to the pumpkins, Delia tried to hold Nathan's hand. I thought this was really cute until I realized she wanted to bite his fingers.

After our hayride to and from the pumpkin patch, Delia and Mary Catherine were worn out. They took a rest together.

Delia picked this pumpkin.

The car ride home was quiet.

Happy Fall, Y'All

Delia's Grandma and Grandpa took us all to Stone Mountain this weekend. The park had a pumpkin festival going on, and Delia had a chance to paint her first pumpkin (as well as her clothes, her Daddy, etc.) She also rode the train, walked around the mountain a bit, ate some fried chicken, and passed out before we got out of the parking lot. It was a lot of fun.

This one looks good, but it's too heavy.

All of these are too heavy!

Ooh, this one is a good size.

"I painted it myself!"

The train ride was fun, and there was a show in the middle of it.

Delia got tired of her stroller, so Daddy stepped in.

It was getting warm by the time we walked down to see the carving.

The best evidence of a fun day: a sleeping baby.

Fall comes to Alabama

It has been wonderfully cool here the past couple of days, and today we celebrated fall by going to Aldridge Gardens. We checked out all the scarecrows and walked around with friends. Later, we went to eat lunch at the mall and rode the carousel.

I was feeling guilty about sitting on this computer all afternoon until I looked at these pictures. We had a big morning!

Delia, look over there! No, no, sweetie, the other way! Look, look!

These ducks were headed for the pond. Delia loves ducks. We read about ducks, we sing about ducks, and occasionally we quack.

We took pictures of all the kids in the group. Who is that one in pink who won't sit down? Oh, ya, that's Delia.

Miss Michelle took some action shots for us on the carousel. Delia was a little surprised when her horse started moving, but she liked the ride.

Gloucester, Great-Grandma

While we were in Massachusetts, Delia got to dip her toes in the ocean in Gloucester (which she did not enjoy) and visit her Great Grandma (which she did enjoy.)

Eating in the rough

So at Woodman's in Essex you can eat great seafood "in the rough." The place is supposedly famous, although possibly only to the people who live nearby. Behind the restaurant is the Essex Room, a beautiful function hall beside a marsh, where David and I had our wedding reception almost exactly 7 years ago. It was pretty great to go back there with Delia.

Bubbe and Mel both capture the moment on their cell phone cameras.

This picture is almost perfect. If only she would stand still!

No, no, no

Well, I still have about 87 pictures to post from our trip to Bubbe's house, but I had to bring you this today. We are living in a world of "no." The two exceptions: Elmo and Daddy.

(Please let me know if this video doesn't work. I think I got it this time...)
